Our collaboration with legendary London handbag and accessories designer Ally Capellino centred on Bobby, a soft tote bag produced in three colourways. The striped structure brings together panels of British Pasture Leather with natural variation, responding directly to the material by allowing its character to become part of the design. Each bag carries subtle differences in tone and character.
All of the bags were created using small volumes of leather generated during our research and development trials, as we refined our tanning and finishing processes. The use of undyed leather in the natural version further highlights the material itself: its pale tone is the result of the vegetable tanning process, and because the leather is finished without heavy coatings, it will develop a rich patina over time.
This built on an earlier collaboration when Ally Capellino founder Alison Lloyd developed the first prototype of the Bobby bag for our exhibition “Leather from British Pastures” during the 2022 London Design Festival.
