Our process
We partner closely with UK tanners and leather finishers, who are vital to the making of British Pasture Leather. Their historic leather making knowledge is critical to the production of our leather, which is made with quality and provenance in a slow and careful process .
Stages of production
-
Hides
All hides used to produce British Pasture Leather come from cattle certified by Pasture for Life.
We take custody of hides directly from partner abattoirs and manage each subsequent stage of production, keeping traceability throughout.
-
Tanning
We are committed to producing leather locally, and we champion the traditional methods of vegetable tanning, which uses natural tannins.
Working with Thomas Ware tannery in Bristol allows us to achieve this vision.
-
Dyeing
Our unfinished hides then move to Blenkinsop Leathers, a multigenerational finishing facility in Northamptonshire.
Here the leather goes through one further wet process in the drums, this is where colour, fats and oils are added.
-
Finishing
At Blenkinsops we also define the details of our finished leather such as the thickness and temper.
We preference low intervention methods of leather finishing so that the true character of the leather can be seen and celebrated.
